MARTIKA

Martika was born as Marta Marrero in Whittier, California, US on May 18, 1969.
Her parents were born in Cuba, but they moved to California during the revolution
and this is were Martika was raised.

She started as an actor in the film version of Annie in 1982 and was also in the TV
series Kids Incorporated between 1984 and 1986 as the character Gloria.
She released her first single "More than you know" in 1988 (which went Top 20 in
the US) and a year later "Toy Soldiers" was released and reached number one in
the US for 2 weeks and also Top 5 in the UK.

Following that she released a self-titled album and her second album "Martika's
kitchen" was released 1991. It included the great soft song "Love thy will be done".
On this album she did some songwriting together with Prince, to whom the rumour
says she had a relationship with for a while.

Later Martika returned to television and joined the Wiseguy cast.
1999 she recorded "The Happy Song" for the Welcome To The Conga Club collection
and she's been recording and writing material with an up-and-coming songwriting/producing
team from the UK called Schjolin & Terao.

She is now in a band called Oppera and you can find more info about this project on the
