PLASTIC BERTRAND

What happened to Plastic Bertrand?

Roger Jouret a.k.a. Plastic Bertrand was born February 24, 1958 in Brussels, Belgium.
He had a big hit in 1977 called "Ca Plane Pour Moi".

He started out as a drummer in a band called Bisons and later while at college 1976-77 Roger
began working at a record shop to earn some extra cash.
At the same time he formed the band Hubble Bubble which was a very early take on Punk Rock.
Not the most successful of band one of the final gigs caught the eye of record producer Lou Derijk.
October 1977 Roger was now called Plastic Bertrand and was having worldwide success with his
single "Ca Plane Pour Moi" (the second ever French speaking single in the Billboard Top 100, where
it climbed up to number 39).

By 1978 Plastic was a star with a sex, drugs and rock n' roll lifestyle. In a Cannes hotel he set fire
to the curtains and in a New York establishment he broke everything in his room with an axe, before
throwing it all out the window. In '79 he also had a minor hit with "Tout petit la planète".

Early in the eighties he was invited to join the cast of 'Abracadabra' ;a musical inspired by Abba songs,
along with Daniel Balavoine and Frieda. His song called 'Mon nez, Mon nez ' (My nose , my nose) was
set to the music of 'Money Money Money'.

By 1986 Plastic had put on so much weight that he looked like a bloated Elvis and failed to recognise
himself in the mirror. And things went from bad to worse when in 1987 he was called up to represent
Luxembourg at the Eurovision song contest with a song called 'Amour Amour' and came second to last.

In 1988 he had a hit with "Slave to the beat", which sold quite well and was one of the many 80's
covers that the Presidents of the United States of America used to bang out at live gigs.

In his down time Plastic cultivated his secret passion for scrabble - he recently played the world champion
and won and has secured a place on the panel of the Festival of Board Games.
These days (when not scrabbling) Plastic keeps himself busy with his own art gallery, where he's hosted
a show dedicated to bovine beauty.

He has also relaunched himself as a record producer promoting new talent alongside classical music from
the Russia of the Tzars (his mother is Ukranian).
He's been stampeding along the comeback trail himself since an MTV poll voted him the pop artist most
people would like to hear back on the airwaves.

For a recent one-off appearance on British television, Plastic joined his hero Mr Eddy Wally in a special duet.
